About Tammy Phipps
Tammy is Invicta through and through. With over 30 years on the ice, she’s one of the most experienced players in the squad – and one of the longest-serving, having been with the club from the very beginning when it all started as Medway. She got into hockey because her brother-in-law played for Medway Bears, and she never really left.
Ice Hockey Career
Based in Rainham and working as a forklift and shunter driver for FedEx, Tammy has previously played three seasons with Chelmsford Cobras, but home is here. The rink is five minutes away, the supporters are growing every week, and the girls are, simply put, amazing. Her idols are Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux – fitting for someone who’s spent three decades putting in the work.
Career Highlights
Her most memorable moment is a slap shot from the blue line at the old Cardiff rink – top corner. The kind of goal that stays with you.
Life Away From Ice Hockey
Away from hockey, she’s recently started following women’s football and makes as many Arsenal Women’s games as she can. Ask her teammates how they’d describe her and she’ll tell you stubborn and veteran – the third word, she genuinely isn’t sure about. She’ll leave that one to them.
