About Jemma Barrett
Jemma grew up in Romford and is currently studying wildlife conservation at university — which gives you a sense of the kind of person she is: curious, passionate, and not afraid to go her own way. She came to hockey two years ago after making friends with a Canadian, and her reason for playing forward is as honest as it is endearing: she can’t skate backwards.
Ice Hockey Career
Jemma plays women’s hockey because she was tired of being the only girl on the ice — and at Invicta Dynamics she’s found exactly what she was looking for: a whole team’s worth of friends and women who inspire her every day. Her idol is Marie-Philip Poulin, arguably the greatest female hockey player of all time, which tells you everything about the standard Jemma holds herself to.
Career Highlights
Her most memorable moment on the ice? Scoring in front of her dad for the very first time.
Life Away From Ice Hockey
Off the ice, Jemma is a multi-instrumentalist who records her own music and plays in a band. She’s also jumped out of a plane twice — with plans for more. As for other sports, there’s no contest: in her own words, it’s hockey or nothing. No other sport even comes close.
